Where do you go when you have a question? If you’re like me, then you’re heading straight to Google. When I was a curious kid, I had to physically open a book (an encyclopedia, remember those?) to search for answers to my questions. And I loved it! I still do. Research is one of my favorite things to do.
Finding answers is so much easier these days. It takes seconds. But the search results can be overwhelming and lead you down a never-ending rabbit hole of information. It’s hard to know what information’s legit and what’s actually an advertisement. I’m putting the answers to the most-asked girl puberty questions in one spot for you, right here. Starting with the Top 3. This post will be a living document. When I find new questions, I’ll add them here.
The Most Asked Girl Puberty Question
At what age will my daughter start puberty? There’s a wide range of answers to this one, but the overall results show that girls generally start showing signs of puberty by 10-years-old. It’s more and more common to see girls starting younger though, with breast buds developing around a girl’s 8th birthday. Every girl develops at her own rate and her puberty timeline might be way off from your own. If you have any concerns about your daughter’s development, contact your pediatrician or other trusted health professional. There are tests you can do to see if your daughter’s puberty is where it should be.
Recommended resource – The New Puberty: How to navigate early development in today’s girls. This book isn’t about precocious puberty (when a girl’s body starts maturing too soon) it’s about how girls are starting to go through puberty earlier and earlier. What’s the First Sign of Puberty for Girls?
Breast development is usually the first sign of puberty in girls, but not always. Body hair might be the first noticeable sign for your girl. It was for me. At least as I remember it. One source I found claims that about 15% of girls will sprout pubic hair before their breasts start budding (Allen and Miller).

Why’s my Tween Daughter so Moody?
This question is super popular! Mood swings and behavior changes are pretty common during puberty and they can have a stressful impact on even the closest mother/daughter relationship. There’s a real reason why your daughter is moody, and it’s likely because of a mix of hormones, stress from dealing with puberty’s physical changes, and even social pressure. While dealing with this tween moodiness stage is almost like a right-of-passage, there are ways you can help make it more tolerable for you can your puberty girl.
Recommended resource – If you only ever read one girl puberty-related book, I recommend you read Untangled: Guiding Teenage Girls Through the Seven Transitions Into Adulthood. It might say it’s for teenage girls, but pre-tween or tween isn’t too early to start. Honestly, if you wait until your daughter’s a teen, it’ll be too late.
